Embodiment Construction

[0029] The description of the exemplary embodiments is intended to be read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which are considered a part of the entire text description. In the specification, relative terms such as "lower end", "upper end", "horizontal", "vertical", "upper", "lower", "upper", "lower", "top", "bottom" and their Derivatives ("horizontally", "downwardly", "upwardly", etc.) should be understood to mean directions as then described or as shown in the figures in question. These relative terms are for convenience of description and do not require that the device be constructed or operated in a particular direction. Unless expressly stated otherwise, terms with respect to attached, joined, etc., such as "connected" and "interconnected" mean where structures are fixed or attached, either directly or indirectly through intervening structures and movable or rigid attachments or relationships to each other's relationship.

Abstract

The wedge osteotomy approach inserts a first wire into the first bone of the foot away from the tissue to be removed. The second wire is inserted into the second bone such that the tissue to be removed is away from the second wire. The cutting guide is pivoted about the first wire until the first axis of the cutting guide is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the first metatarsal. The cutting guide has a slot perpendicular to the first axis for guiding the cutter to cut the bone while the first axis is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the first metatarsal. The cutting guide is then pivoted about the second wire until the first axis is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the talus and the bone is cut through the slot to form a second planar incision into or through the bone material.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices, and more particularly to devices and methods for biplane wedge osteotomy. Background technique [0002] Patients with Charcot foot neuropathy may experience swelling pain, as well as joint subluxation (dislocation). Finally, misalignment of the joint may cause the bony prominence beneath the foot. Patients with neuropathy may experience no pain and continue to walk and support weight on the affected foot. If left untreated, it can lead to ulcers and infection. Goals of treatment include allowing the ulcer to heal, developing a plantar foot, and preventing infection. [0003] "Lateral Talar First Metatarsal Angle (Meary's angle)" is a measure of deformity of the foot. The lateral talar first metatarsal angle is the angle between the central longitudinal axis of the talus and the central longitudinal axis of the first metatarsal, as viewed in the vertical (parasagittal) plane. In a normal ...
