Abstract

The present invention discloses a venous access device, which may include a needle hub with an inclined paddle grip to facilitate catheter insertion at a low angle. The angled paddle grip also minimizes any interference that the extension tube or stabilization platform may cause during insertion. By utilizing the angled paddle grip, the catheter can be inserted while maintaining the stabilization platform in an orientation substantially parallel to the patient's skin. Also, where the extension tube can extend parallel to the stabilizing platform, the angled paddle grip prevents the extension tube from protruding into the patient's skin during insertion. This will prevent the stabilization platform and / or extension tube from getting stuck on the patient's skin or otherwise impeding smooth insertion of the catheter.
