Abstract

Embodiments of the invention generally relate to image synthesis using active masks. Specifically, embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer storage media for use at image synthesis utilizing active masks. In one embodiment, an input is received identifying a region of interest within an image to be composited. The patch synthesis technique can then be performed to synthesize the target region based on the portion of the source region identified by the patch synthesis technique. In an embodiment, the patch synthesis technique includes, for at least one iteration, generating an activity mask indicating one or more portions of the target region as inactive. The activity mask can be utilized by at least one process of the patch synthesis technique to ignore one or more portions that are inactive as indicated by the activity mask for at least one iteration of the patch synthesis technique.
