Embodiment Construction

[0060] The present disclosure is described below with reference to embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings. It should be understood, however, that these descriptions are provided for illustrative purposes only, and are not intended to limit the present disclosure. In addition, descriptions of known structures and techniques are omitted below so as not to unnecessarily obscure the concept of the present disclosure.

[0061] figure 1 is a flowchart of a method for estimating the depth of unfocused plenoptic data according to an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0062] At step S101, the uniformity level of the microlens image of the unfocused plenoptic data is determined.

[0063] The level of uniformity can be determined by reconstructing the estimated metric matrix from the plenoptic data as a representation of the light field. After estimating a uniformity measure for each microlens image (e.g., by computing the standard deviation or the sum of the energy of the signal...

Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for estimating depth of unfocused plenoptic data. The method includes: determining the uniformity level of the microlens image of the unfocused plenoptic data; determining that the difference in the microlens image of the unfocused plenoptic data is equal to zero according to the calculated uniformity level of the microlens image of the unfocused plenoptic data or pixels belonging to a homogeneous region; and estimating the depth of the unfocused plenoptic data by disparity estimation regardless of the determined pixels. In the present disclosure, by preprocessing the raw data, it is possible to prevent any disparity estimation method from spending time estimating disparity for (i) focused pixels; (ii) pixels belonging to homogeneous regions of the scene.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to light field technology and, in particular, to methods and apparatus for estimating the depth of unfocused plenoptic data. Background technique [0002] This section is intended to provide a background to various embodiments of the techniques described in this disclosure. The description in this section may include concepts that are claimable, but not necessarily concepts that have been previously thought of or claimed. Therefore, unless otherwise indicated herein, what is described in this section is not prior art to the description and / or claims in the present disclosure and is not admitted to be prior art by virtue of its mere inclusion in this section. [0003] The light field is a concept proposed in computer graphics and vision technology, which is defined as all the light rays shooting in every direction at every point in space. A light field camera (also known as a plenoptic camera) is a type of camera that us...
