Embodiment Construction

[0026] Systems and methods for tracking objects are described herein. For example, the systems and methods disclosed herein may be implemented for tracking one or more objects in a series of images (eg, video, monocular video, etc.). In some configurations, tracking may be performed via a controlled cascade of sequential sampling filters.

[0027] In known methods, object tracking mechanisms require combining object detectors with tracking filters like Kalman filters, particle filters or mean shift filters in order to maintain temporal smoothness and improve accuracy. These methods can have high computational demands, as object detection at multiple resolutions and at various poses is a very expensive task.

[0028] In some configurations, a controlled cascade of sequential sampling filters can be used to overcome this problem. The systems and methods disclosed herein do not require constant or regular use of object detectors. In some configurations, the systems and methods...

Abstract

The present invention describes a method for tracking an object by an electronic device. The method includes detecting an object position in an initial frame to generate a detected object position. The method also includes measuring one or more feature point locations based on the detected or predicted object locations. The method further includes predicting a location of the object in a subsequent frame based on the one or more feature point locations. The method additionally includes determining whether object tracking is lost. The method also includes refraining from performing object detection for the subsequent frame while maintaining object tracking.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to electronic devices. More specifically, the present invention relates to systems and methods for tracking objects. Background technique [0002] In recent decades, the use of electronic devices has become widespread. Specifically, advances in electronics technology have reduced the cost of increasingly complex and useful electronic devices. Cost reductions and consumer demand have dramatically increased the use of electronic devices, making them virtually ubiquitous in modern society. As the use of electronic devices has expanded, there has been a need for new and improved features of electronic devices. More specifically, electronic devices are often sought to perform new functions and / or perform functions faster, more efficiently or more reliably. [0003] Some electronic devices utilize images. For example, smart phones can capture and process digital images. However, processing images can involve comp...
