Embodiment Construction

[0023] The detailed description provided below in connection with the accompanying drawings is intended as a description of the present example and is not intended to represent the only forms in which the present example may be constructed or utilized. The description sets forth the functionality of the example and the sequence of steps used to build and operate the example. However, the same or equivalent functions and sequences can be performed by different examples.

[0024] As described above, the use of row / column drivers makes it difficult to build displays on non-developable surfaces. The use of row / column drivers means that the display usually comprises a regular or rectilinear array of pixels. The embodiments described below are not limited to implementations that address any or all of the disadvantages of known displays.

[0025] Displays formed from a plurality of autonomous self-contained pixels are disclosed herein. Pixels are described as autonomous because th...

Abstract

A method of making a display comprising a plurality of autonomous pixels is described. Each autonomous pixel includes display elements and control elements. The control element is configured to sense the external stimulus and generate a control signal entirely within the autonomous pixel to drive the display element based at least in part on the magnitude of the sensed external stimulus.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Utility Application Serial No. 14 / 687,038, filed April 15, 2015. Application Serial No. 14 / 687,038 is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Current displays use complex electronics, row / column drivers for the pixels, and timing circuits in order to draw images on the display. The use of row / column drivers makes it difficult to build displays on non-developable surfaces while maintaining a consistent density of pixels throughout the display. A developable surface is one that can be tiled onto a plane without distortion, and thus a non-developable surface is one that cannot be tiled onto a plane without distortion (for example, with the problems experienced when projecting a map onto a screen similar), such as a sphere. Contents of the invention [0004] The following presents a simplified summary of the disclosure in order to provide th...
