Abstract

Embodiments of the invention disclose a route selection method and a packet forwarding device. After acquiring a packet to be forwarded, the packet forwarding device acquires a packet retransmission rate of an outbound interface of each route in equal-cost routes, and selects the outbound interface with the lowest packet retransmission rate as a preferred route to forward the packet. From the above process, the packet forwarding device does not depend on an external device when selecting a route and completely implements on the itself, thereby reducing the probability of the packet being discarded and improving the service transmission quality; and the service bandwidth does not need to be occupied and thus, an increase in the bandwidth of the outbound interface is not required.
