Femtocell Channel Assignment and Power Control for Improved Femtocell Coverage and Efficient Cell Search

A method and a communication system including femtocells within a macrocell efficiently manage interference between the different femtocells, and between each femtocell and a macrocell. An efficient frequency assignment scheme for the femtocells minimizes interference between a femtocell and a macrocell and among different femtocells using a spectrum-sensing technique carried out by the femtocells. The frequency assignment scheme selects a suitable channel from a set of candidate channels and ensures that the femtocell has an acceptable coverage area even when it is close to the macrocell base station (BS). The frequency assignment scheme favors a co-channel implementation to take advantage of the hand-off and cell search characteristics of the co-channel implementation. In one embodiment, a joint power control and frequency band assignment technique is used, which partitions the coverage area of the macrocell into an inner region, a power control region, and an outer region. Depending on a femtocell's location, it is assigned a certain power level and a frequency band. Power control may be used within the power-control region while, in the other regions, a fixed transmission power may be used.

Compact efficient and robust ultraviolet

A compact and efficient ultraviolet laser source based on a optically-pumped solid-state or fiber laser that produces near-infrared output light suitable for nonlinear frequency conversion. The infrared laser output is frequency tripled or quadrupled to produce light in the ultraviolet wavelength range (200 nm to 400 nm). The novel technology is the use of highly efficient periodically poled nonlinear crystals, such as stoichiometric and MgO-doped lithium tantalate and lithium niobate. As opposed to conventional frequency-converted UV laser sources, which have high power consumption, high cost, and low efficiency, the laser sources of this invention utilize high efficiency nonlinear conversion provided by periodically poled materials and allow lower-cost architectures without additional focusing lenses, high power pump diodes, etc.

Piezoelectric substrate for a saw device

The present invention provides a composite structure having a supporting substrate between a piezoelectric substrate and a compensation layer. The materials used to form the piezoelectric substrate and the compensation layer in isolation, have higher thermal coefficients of expansion (TCE) relative to the TCE of the materials forming the supporting substrate. Once the composite structure is created, the piezoelectric substrate and compensation layer tend to expand and contract in a similar manner as temperature changes. The expansion and contraction forces applied to the supporting substrate by the piezoelectric substrate due to temperature changes are substantially countered by similar opposing forces applied by the compensation layer, resulting in the opposing forces substantially counteracting one another. Due to the counteraction, the composite structure resists bending or warping, reducing expansion and contraction and increasing stress of the piezoelectric substrate, and thus reducing the effective TCE and TCF of the piezoelectric substrate.

High speed filter

An electronic filter operates as a correlator that provides a discrete approximation of an analog signal. The analog to digital conversion is integrated directly approximation calculation. An array of sample and hold circuits or single bit comparators provide outputs to a series of multipliers, the other input of which is a coefficient value of a Fourier series approximation of the desired frequency response. Each of the sample and hold circuits samples sequentially in time and holds its sample until the next cycle. Thus the sample point rotates in time through the array and each new sample is multiplied by a different coefficient. The output of the multipliers is summed for evaluation.

Spatial reuse in WLAN multi-ap network

Systems and methods of WLAN communication including efficient spatial reuse mechanisms for relay transmissions between a repeater network and non-AP STAs in OFDMA. The non-AP STAs are grouped based on their connectivity with the individual repeaters and the radio coverage regions of the repeaters. Each group is either a non-overlapping group with the constituent non-AP STAs located in a non-overlapping coverage region of a particular repeater, or an overlapping group with the constituent non-AP STAs located in an overlapping coverage region of two or more repeaters. Based on the grouping, certain RUs (or subchannels) are reused for multiple groups without causing inter-group interference, thereby expanding the bandwidths used in the relay operations. RU allocation based on grouping can be used in combination with transmit power adjustment to achieve efficient spatial reuse in OFDMA.
