Problems solved by technology

This can result in asymmetrical shapes, disrupting the geometry and dimensions of the shape being created, and limiting the content creator's ability to further modify the shape
Furthermore, these conventional techniques cannot be used for shapes with complex geometries (e.g., polygons, stars, etc.)

[0018] overview

[0019] Techniques and systems are described in the context of digital media that support the creation and rasterization of shapes with sharp, defined edges. For example, a content creator may interact with a user interface of a shape creation system implemented by a computing device. The shape creation system includes a number of shape creation tools that can be used to draw various simple shapes (eg, circles, rectangles) or complex shapes (eg, stars, octagons) in a user interface of a computing device. For example, a content creator may first select a representation (e.g., a rectangle) to be used to form a shape (e.g., square, rectangle, circle, star) by selecting a corresponding shape creation tool (e.g., rectangle creation tool) in the user interface. , octagon, etc.) geometry.

[0020] Content creators can also specify styling for shapes. Styling settings include the thickness of the line used to form the shape, how the line is aligned within the use...

Abstract

The present invention describes a digital medium environment to improve a digital media environment of creation and rasterization of a shape through pixel alignment. In one example, a pixel alignmentsystem is implemented at least partially in hardware of a computing device. The pixel alignment system receives an input that specifies a geometry, a stroke setting and a location that serves as a basis to position the shape. The pixel alignment system then snaps the location as specified by the at least one input to a snapped location based on a pixel grid. The snapped location is based on the geometry, the stroke setting and the location as specified by the input. A rasterization module is then employed to rasterize the shape as pixels based on the snapped location.

Description

Background technique [0001] Content creators often wish to include shapes with sharp, defined edges as part of digital content. For example, when creating an icon of an envelope, a content creator may use a line defined with a vector to draw the edge of the envelope. These vectors are then rasterized to generate the pixels used to display the envelope in the user interface. [0002] However, conventional techniques for defining lines as part of rasterization and shape rendering can result in unclear, fuzzy edges. This is usually due to the definition of the line between the positions of the pixels used to rasterize the edge, which blurs the additional pixels the edge spans. For example, a line that is defined to have a thickness of a single pixel when located between pixel locations can result in the use of multiple pixels with attenuated edges that cause the line to blur when rasterized. While techniques have been developed to address this unwanted effect, these techniques...
