Problems solved by technology

[0003] However, because the number of PVCs that can occur in a given day can be in the hundreds or thousands, it is currently not feasible for skilled artisans to examine the amount of data required to infer whether a PVC is unifocal or multifocal
Furthermore, since PVCs typically do not cause much discomfort to the patient, these occurrences may go unreported
However, long-term PVC prevalence may lead to or be a leading indicator of more serious cardiac conditions

Embodiment Construction

[0018] The present invention relates to a system and method for monitoring, detecting and diagnosing premature ventricular contraction (PVC). In particular, the present invention provides systems and methods for differentiating between unifocal and multifocal PVCs based on the morphology of the detected PVC event, wherein diagnosing the PVC as unifocal or multifocal allows for different treatments to be selected .

Abstract

Systems and methods for monitoring and reporting premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) detected in patients are described. The method includes monitoring an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal of a patient with an adherent device including a plurality of electrodes. Premature ventricular systolic (PVC) beats are detected based on the monitored ECG signal, and ECG segments associated with the detected PVC beats are stored for subsequent analysis. A morphological signal is computed by quantifying stored ECG segments associated with a detected PVC beat, wherein the morphological signal numerically represents the shape of the detected PVC beat. The PVC beats are then numerically clustered based on the calculated morphology signal to group PVC beats with similar morphology or shape, and a report is generated based on the clustering of PVC beats.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to patient monitoring, and in particular to monitoring, detection and diagnosis of premature ventricular contractions (premature ventricular contractions) (PVC) type and load. Background technique [0002] Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are premature depolarizations originating in the ventricles. PVCs can cause symptoms such as heart palpitations, chest pain, and fainting. However, PVCs are a ubiquitous cardiac rhythm that occurs in both healthy patients as well as those with underlying heart disease. PVC morphology (ie, shape) depends on the site of ectopic ventricular pacing that triggers systole and the depolarization pathway that systole takes. PVCs originating from the same ectopic pacing site and depolarized by the same route are referred to as unifocal PVCs, whereas PVCs originating from multiple ectopic pacing sites and / or depolarizing via different routes are referred to as multifocal PVCs....
