It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the technology may be practiced in other embodiments that depart from these specific details. In other instances, detailed descriptions of well-known methods, devices, and circuits are omitted so as not to obscure the description of the technology with unnecessary detail.

[0039] figure 1 A part of a radio transmitter device is shown.

[0040]The radio transmitter device 10 may be located in a radio base station, eg an eNB. The transmitter device comprises signal summation means 50 connected to the different input branches 20 . Each branch 20 can be dedicated to a radio standard such as WCDMA, GSM, LTE or the like. The input signal on the branch is digital and includes ...

Abstract

This disclosure relates to a peak reduction unit (100) and method for reducing peaks by identifying peak sample values exceeding a pre-set threshold value in an aggregated baseband carrier signal anddetermining a maximum peak sample by detecting its maximum peak absolute value and phase. A search is performed a pre-determined search length (L) beyond an identified peak to retrieve close sub-peaksor local extrema. A stored, predetermined filter impulse response based on the carrier passband configuration is retrieved and its amplitude and phase of the predetermined filter impulse response isadjusted by means of the phase and absolute value of the determined maximum peak sample. Finally, the aggregated baseband carrier signal and the adjusted predetermined filter impulse response are combined by synchronizing their maximum peaks and their opposite phase values for adjusting the aggregated baseband carrier signal to said pre-set threshold value.

Description

technical field [0001] The technology relates to methods and apparatus in wireless communication networks. In more detail, the present disclosure provides methods and units for limiting peaks in a signal in a transmitter. Background technique [0002] Multi-standard radio (MSR) transmitters are utilized eg in base stations supporting different radio access technologies such as LTE, WCDMA, GSM etc. figure 1 The schematic design of the MSR is shown in . The MSR transmitter suffers from high PAR values, ie a high ratio between the peak and average power of the signal. This is the result of the central limit theorem and many signals added together. The resulting real and imaginary components of the signal will approximate a Gaussian distribution, and the amplitude will approximate a Rayleigh distribution. [0003] Limiting PAR is important in order to obtain good efficiency of the power amplifier (PA). To limit PAR, a crest factor reduction (CFR) algorithm can be utilized. ...
