Abstract

A laser video endoscope has a laser guide, an illumination guide and an image guide which extend through an optical probe and through a hand piece that supports the probe. The hand piece is connectedby an optical fiber cable to an laser energy source and an illumination source. An image is transmitted from the hand piece to an image processing interface by an camera assembly optically coupled andmounted directly to the hand piece and via the electrical cable extending from the camera assembly. A camera and its electrical cable can be uncoupled from the hand piece and reused. The rest of theproduct, including the probe and the hand piece, can be disposed of after each medical routine. The probe can have a proximal portion and a distal portion such that the proximal portion extends from adistal end of the hand piece, and the outside diameter of the proximal portion as measured at least near the distal end of thehand piece is greater than the outside diameter of the distal portion.
