[0043] The present disclosure generally relates to intra-operator and inter-operator coordination on a shared communication medium. To facilitate inter-frequency measurements, for example, neighboring access points operating on a shared communication medium may synchronize reference signaling including a corresponding window for sending a certain reference signaling (e.g., Discovery Reference Signal (DRS) transmission window(DTxW)). This may allow the access terminal to monitor such signaling more efficiently. The access point can also notify its access terminals of information related to reference signaling and DTxW timing, including timing offsets at which DTxW in neighboring cells can be found, indicators about the level of DTxW synchronization between neighboring cells, etc.

Abstract

Techniques for intra- and inter-operator coordination on a shared communication medium are disclosed. A central coordination server may send an operating mode information message to coordinate operation of different points on the communication medium. An access point may receive such an operating mode information message and adjust one or more communication parameters. An access point may determine a level of timing synchronization with neighboring access points and send a synchronization advertisement message to an access terminal. An access terminal may receive a synchronization advertisement message and perform one or more measurements of the neighboring access points.
