Embodiment Construction

[0101] Certain embodiments of the present disclosure can include systems and methods for network failover in digital substations. In some instances, some embodiments of the systems and methods can enhance the security and stability of digital substations by eliminating or otherwise minimizing the need for physical security, and by providing cybersecurity for equipment in digital substations . Certain embodiments of the present disclosure may provide architectural redundancy for communication networks by allowing common modes of failure in redundant communication channels to be eliminated or minimized.

[0102] In certain embodiments of the present disclosure, a system for network failover is provided. The system can include at least one process interface unit (PIU). The PIU may include at least one pre-configured communication port defined by one of factory settings or product code order. A PIU may be operable to transmit and receive data streams. A data stream may include...

Abstract

Systems and methods for network failover in digital substations are provided. One method includes receiving, by an intelligent electronic device (IED) from a process interface unit (PIU), in parallela pre-configured data stream via a point-to point connection and one or more other data streams via an Ethernet network. The method further includes determining that at least one of the following failure conditions is satisfied: a frame in the pre-configured data stream is lost or delayed, quality of the data in the frame in the data stream is below a first threshold, period of the time associatedwith the data in the frame in the data stream is below a second threshold, or a health indicator associated with the PIU is below a third threshold. The method further allows identifying at least oneredundant frame in the one or more other data streams. If the quality of data in redundant frame is satisfactory, the method proceeds to use the redundant frame for further processing.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of and applies to U.S. Serial No. 15 / 222484, filed July 28, 2016, entitled "System and Method for a Configurationless Process Bus with Architectural Redundancy in Digital Substations" Priority, the contents of which application is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to digital substations, and more particularly, to systems and methods for network failover in digital substations. Background technique [0004] The use of digital substations continues to grow. Differences between digital substations and conventional substations can include reduced wiring between substation components such as transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, etc., and sharing information between multi-vendor devices to provide interoperability of devices sex. [0005] The operation of the components of the digital substation can be automated using merging units...
