Embodiment Construction

[0043] In general, the non-limiting exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for determining a user's gait profile. The gait analyzer system uses: a sensing system including inertial sensors configured to be positioned at the right and left foot-ankle structures; and lower body parts of the person whose gait profile is to be determined Spatial orientation of (calf, thigh and torso). In an exemplary embodiment, the gait analyzer system uses the following sensors that may be provided by an exoskeleton device or orthotic device worn by the user: at the left and right leg-knee or thigh-hip structures Two additional inertial sensors, and sensors that provide information indicative of the angular position of the left and right knees and thighs, for example, as described in the article entitled "LOAD DISTRIBUTION DEVICE FOR HUMAN JOINTS" described in U.S. Patent No. 9,370,439. This determination of the user's gait profile is performed using biomec...

Abstract

A system and method for determining the gait profile of a user. The gait profiler system uses sensing systems that include inertial sensors configured to be positioned at the right and left foot-anklestructure, as well as spatial orientation of lower extremity body segments (shanks, thighs, and trunk) of the person for which the gait profile is to be determined. In an illustrative embodiment, thegait profiler system uses two additional inertial sensors at the left and right leg-knee or thigh- hip structure as well as sensors providing information indicative of the angular positions of the left and right knee and thigh, which may be provided by an exoskeieton or orthotic devices worn by the user. The determination of the gait profile of the user is then performed using biomechanics information about the user from the inertial sensors combined with the knee and hip angles.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 286,902, filed January 25, 2016, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to a gait analyzer system and method for determining a user's gait profile. Background technique [0004] Assistive mobility devices such as actuated orthotics that provide optimized knee assistance (i.e. inject energy during more than 99% of the user's activity) require knowledge of the state of the user's legs, i.e. either a) in a standing position (i.e. in contact with the ground, or b) in swing state. [0005] A common way to do this is with a pressure sensor. However, this method has disadvantages, mainly: [0006] · The pressure sensor must be placed into the sole of the user's shoe or create a sole that can be adapted to fit all shoes; [0007] The accuracy of the pressure sensor is sensitive to the ...
