Embodiment Construction

[0017] Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems and methods for reducing the processing time of smart user device (eg, contact chip card) based transactions in order to optimize the user experience. For years, consumers have swiped a magnetic stripe card at an access device and put it back in their pocket without waiting for a transaction to complete. The embodiments described in the present invention allow for equally fast and easy transaction processing during smart user device transactions. Faster transaction processing may be achieved by one or more of the following changes to conventional transaction processing.

[0018] In embodiments of the present invention, the user device may be removed from the access device before the transaction is completed. For example, the access device may notify the user device that the transaction is complete or canceled (eg, by requesting a second password) even though the transaction is actually still pending. The user devi...

Abstract

The present invention provides methods and systems for facilitating transactions. Transactions involving an integrated circuit user device in contact with an access device are processed in less time so that the user device can be removed at an earlier time. In an embodiment, the access device provides the estimated value to the user device so that the password can be generated without waiting for the final value. Furthermore, the access device may store user device data and then complete the transaction with the user device prior to authorizing the transaction so that the user device may be removed without waiting for an authorization response.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application is an international patent application for and claims the benefit of the filing date of US Patent Application Serial No. 15 / 171,982, filed June 2, 2016, which claims US Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 317,450, filed April 1, 2016 Priority to the provisional application, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference for all purposes. Background technique [0003] Smart cards store user account data on an integrated circuit rather than a magnetic strip. A smart card may be a contact card that is physically inserted (or "dip") into a card reader (eg, a terminal). Compared to magnetic stripe card transactions, smart card transactions have improved security against fraud. However, smart card transactions traditionally take longer to process at the card reader than traditional magnetic stripe card transactions, where the user can put the card back in his pocket after the initial swipe wi...
