[0043] The system described below allows a vehicle to follow a user with minimal supervision from the user while avoiding restricted areas. The system includes computers and sensors for the autonomous operation of the vehicle, as well as control equipment. The computer is programmed to receive data from the control device for demarcating space boundaries in the computer's memory. The computer is further programmed to control the vehicle to follow the user while preventing the vehicle from crossing the boundaries of the space. While keeping the vehicle in constant proximity to the user, the system provides a convenient way for the user to perform tasks. Furthermore, advantageously the system addresses the problem of how to steer the vehicle out of restricted areas lacking visual markers.
