Abstract

The invention relates to unfreezing equipment with a relocatable electrode. A thermal improvement system can be coupled to a sealed structure for containing loads. The thermal improvement system comprises a plurality of frame supporting structures arranged in a cavity. The plurality of frame support structures are configured to relocate the electrode at a plurality of positions in the cavity. Thethermal improvement system comprises a first electrode arranged at the first surface of the sealed structure, wherein the relocatable electrode is arranged in the sealed structure so as to divide thecavity into single volumes. The system comprises one or two radio-frequency signal sources electrically connected into the first electrode or the relocatable electrode. The radio-frequency signal source is configured to supply radio-frequency energy into any one or two of the first electrode and the relocatable electrode.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the subject matter described herein relate generally to apparatus and methods for thawing loads using radio frequency (RF) energy. Background technique [0002] Conventional capacitive food defrosting (or thawing) systems include large planar electrodes contained within a heating chamber. After placing the food load between the electrodes and bringing the electrodes into contact with the food load, low power electromagnetic energy is supplied to the electrodes to achieve slight heating of the food load. As the food load melts during the defrosting operation, the impedance of the food load changes. Consequently, the power delivery to the food load also changes during the defrosting operation. The duration of the defrosting operation may be determined, for example, based on the weight of the food load, and a timer may be used to control the termination of the operation. [0003] While good defrosting results are possible with such syste...
