The method described herein includes, based on a first number of bits in a sequence of bits to be interleaved, determining a second number of rows in a triangular interleaver for interleaving the bits. The method also includes dividing said sequence of bits into said second number of subsequences associated with said row, the difference in the number of bits in any two consecutive subsequences of said subsequences being a predetermined value . The method also includes writing the second number of subsequences into the triangle interleaver in order of the rows, including, for a given row in the triangle interleaver, based on the index of the given row, determining The order in which bits with odd indices and bits with even indices in the subsequence associated with said given row are written.
