Problems solved by technology

However then this is too selective as the belt is located in the space under the hood of the motor vehicle and this space also houses the engine and is heated by the engine so is usually warmer than the outside
We found that overestimating the risk of icing belt slippage reduces the availability of the engine stop phase compared to necessary

Embodiment Construction

[0033] refer to figure 1 , the internal combustion engine is referenced 1 , the starting member, preferably an alternator-starter, is referenced 2 , and the battery of the vehicle is referenced 3 . The drive belt connecting the starter member 2 to the engine 1 is referenced 4 .

[0034] The invention provides a method of preventing the risk of slippage of the belt 4 connecting the starting member 2 and the internal combustion engine 1 of a motor vehicle, which may be due to ice deposits on the belt.

[0035] According to the invention, the method comprises estimating or measuring 10 the temperature of the belt at a given moment, and if the estimated or measured temperature of the belt 4 at the given moment is less than a calibratable temperature threshold value, when the internal combustion engine 1 is turning Stopping of the internal combustion engine 1 is inhibited when the internal combustion engine 1 is stopped, or starting of the internal combustion engine 1 by the start...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for preventing a belt (4) that connects a starter member (2) to an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle from slipping, the slipping being liable to occuras a result of a deposit of ice on the belt (4). The method comprises an estimate or measurement (10) of a temperature of the belt (4) at a given moment and, if the estimated or measured temperatureof the belt (4) is below a calibratable temperature threshold at least lower than 0 DEG C at this given moment, then, when the internal combustion engine (1) is turning over, a command not to stop theinternal combustion engine (1) is issued or, when the internal combustion engine (1) is stopped, a command not to start the internal combustion engine (1) using the starter member (2) associated withthe belt (4) is issued.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method of preventing the risk of slipping due to icing of a belt connecting a starting member with an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. Advantageously, the starting component may be an alternator-starter. [0002] The present invention is preferably applied to a hybrid vehicle having an engine other than an internal combustion engine. Such a hybrid vehicle may be a vehicle in which the internal combustion engine and the engine are both propulsion engines and run alternately or simultaneously, or may be a vehicle in which the internal combustion engine acts to drive an alternator that charges the propulsion engine's battery . [0003] The invention is also preferably applied to hybrid vehicles, or vehicles not equipped with an automatic stop and start system of the internal combustion engine. Background technique [0004] For hybrid vehicles, during driving, a propulsion phase using the internal combustion engi...
