The present invention relates to a system for determining the status of a tool positioning machine. A system for providing status information of at least a part of a tool positioning machine (5), which is embodied as a handling machine or as a coordinate measuring machine. Said system comprises said tool positioning machine (5) defining a machine coordinate system and having a base (31) and a machine structure. The machine structure comprises: a tool head and structural parts (32-34) for coupling said tool head to said base; at least one drive mechanism for providing said machine structure relative to said base (31 ) of kinematics; a position determination system for obtaining at least one coordinate of said machine structure in said machine coordinate system; and a control unit adapted to control the movement of said machine structure. The system includes calibration equipment including at least two calibration components.
