[0030] The present disclosure generally relates to systems, devices, and methods for using a matrix of variable phase optical elements (eg, diffractive optical elements (DOE)) to introduce phase delay into the wavefront of light received through a lens, thereby enhancing aspects of optical sensors and capturing scenes The performance of the device. These enhancements can be related to how light travels through the variable phase optical element and, in some embodiments, can also be related to the moving matrix or another optical component of the optical device (eg, a sensor or lens). For example , the phase delay introduced by the variable phase optical element matrix can enable the optical sensor to capture at least two different views of the scene, and the systems and devices presented herein can use the different views to provide or increase the resolution of the optical device's output image or frame rate (eg, in angular, depth, and / or spectral dimensions).

Abstract

The invention relates to systems and methods for enhanced optical sensor devices. The disclosed imaging device may include an optical sensor; a lens positioned to focus light from a scene onto the optical sensor; a matrix of variable-phase optical elements that are dimensioned to introduce at least two different phase delays into a wavefront of the light from the scene; and a housing that couplesthe matrix of variable-phase optical elements to the optical sensor. The housing may position the matrix at least substantially perpendicular to an optical axis of the optical sensor and may enable the optical sensor to capture at least two different perspectives of the scene per output image. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for enhancing optical sensor devices. Background technique [0002] Imaging systems can use optical sensors in a variety of applications to capture images, video, and other information that characterizes a scene or objects within a scene. However, conventional optical sensor devices and systems may have various limitations. For example, conventional image sensors that capture standard images from light in the visible spectrum may not provide depth information for a scene. Conversely, conventional time-of-flight (ToF) sensors may have lower resolution than other image sensors, at least in part due to the circuitry required to demodulate the reflected signal to calculate depth within the scene. Furthermore, some conventional hyperspectral imaging systems are designed to increase spectral resolution at the expense of spatial resolution. Accordingly, there is a need for improved imaging devices, syst...
