[0021] (4) Since there is no visual indication on the construction site as to where the actual point is, the user may (inadvertently) choose to proceed in a direction moving away from the desired point of interest 7
[0026] The difficulty of performing the seemingly simple tasks described above is unimaginable unless those tasks are actually accomplished
It is particularly difficult for a user walking around with the pole 4 to try to get the prism 3 in the correct precise position for the desired point of interest while also keeping the pole in a vertical (plumb) orientation
Of course, after many repetitions, this type of process becomes more routine, but it is still a labor-intensive and demanding function that often must be performed outdoors while being exposed to weather and annoying insects

[0089] First Embodiment: Rolling Ground Frame

[0090] The second main component of the system is a remote controller 300 , such as a tablet, located with the user 52 . (As used herein, the phrase "tablet" or just "tablet" will have the same meaning as the phrase "remote controller".) In figure 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the tablet 300 is mounted to a movable ground frame or chassis 54 that also holds a vertical screen (or target) 50 that can be used to capture Laser fan beam 134 for showing the heading where the point of interest is located. For ease of use, a movable floor frame or chassis 54 secures the screen 50 and panel 300 together. As an example, the movable floor frame 54 may have wheels, or slide rails, or a combination of both.

[0091] The remote controller 300 includes a viewable display monitor (or display) 342 that (as a touch screen display) is used to input desired points of interest to drive the laser emitters. The LDM target provides a surface 50 ...

[0209] Second Embodiment: Manually Operated Roller

[0210] now refer to Figure 8 , a hand-held or hand-rolled roller cart 64 is shown. Cart 64 includes a chassis with wheels and has target screen 60 mounted near the bottom of the cart. The extension arm or handle 68 travels up to a mount 70 to which the remote control 300 is attached. In the illustrated embodiment, the remote control 300 is again a tablet computer operated directly by the human user 52 . A preferred tablet 300 will include a display monitor 342 which is also a touch screen for user input circuitry rather than having a separate keypad. However, a separate keypad 352 could of course be provided if desired.

[0211] Roller cart 64 may be a relatively small cart, but large enough to support vertical target screen 60 with its bottom edge in close proximity to the surface of ground 200 . With four wheels, it should be easy to move the cart 64 back and forth, as shown. A handle 68 extends up to the user 52, a...

Abstract

A laser controller with an electronic rangefinder and a laser emitter that produces a vertical laser plane is used for spot placement tasks with a remote controller and a movable target. The electronic range finder and laser transmitter are mounted on the same vertical pivot. Once the system is set up for a specific job site, the laser plane can be aimed at a specific point of interest on the job site ground, and then a visible laser line will appear on the ground from the laser controller all the way to that point of interest. Aim the rangefinder in the same direction of travel as the laser plane, and the rangefinder provides the distance to a movable target that moves along the visible laser line until a specified distance is reached to find the interest point.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 447,078, filed January 17, 2017, entitled "POINT LAYOUTSYSTEM USING SINGLE LASER TRANSMITTER." technical field [0003] The techniques disclosed herein relate generally to layout "survey" devices, and are particularly directed to two-dimensional layout systems of the type that identify points and their coordinates and other surfaces. Specifically disclosed are embodiments using a single laser controller with a laser emitter producing a vertical laser plane and an electronic rangefinder, and a remote controller controlling specific functions, wherein a movable target is connected to the electronic rangefinder. used together with the distance meter. Mount the laser transmitter and electronic rangefinder on a rotatable platform that can be rotated to any azimuth direction (or heading), and the laser transmitter will then generate a "static" ...
