Extended range, light weight laser target designator

Pulse integration is utilized on board an optically guided missile or other ordinance device used as a part of a target designation system for extending the lock-on range of the missile by approximately 18%, when a double pulse laser is utilized to illuminate and designate the target. Pulse integration is accomplished with a recirculating delay unit which superimposes the first pulse on the second pulse, such that while the pulses add coherently, noise does not add in phase. The pulse integration technique therefore enhances the signal-to-noise ratio when the missile is at the outer limits of its operating range. When the missile is sufficiently close to the target, doublet decoding is actuated to offer countermeasure resistance. At this point, pulse integration may proceed in lieu of doublet decoding or may be dispensed with in view of the increased signal-to-noise ratio due to the close range of the missile to the target.

Real-time detection system and method for spatial pose of boom-type roadheader

The invention provides a real-time detection system and method for the spatial pose of a boom-type roadheader. The real-time detection system comprises two cross laser transmitters, an industrial control computer, two Internet protocol cameras and two laser targets. Machine vision technology is used as an acquisition manner for pose parameters; a mathematic model for resolving the pose of the roadheader is established so as to obtain the yaw angle, pitch angle, roll angle of the roadheader in heading process and the offset of a fixed point on the body of the roadheader on the cross section of a tunnel, i.e., the spatial pose of the roadheader, and the spatial pose can be used for deviation rectification in automatic heading of the roadheader. Experimental results show that the precision of an angle detected by the system is within 0.5 DEG and the precision of offset is better than 20 mm; an interval between processing time and displaying time for each frame of an image is about 5 s; so requirements of tunnel construction for automation, precision and real-time positioning are met.

Dual-mode focal plane array for missile seekers

A single dual mode monolithic focal plane array having an active sensor and a passive sensing capability is switched from one mode to the other by switching the bias across the cells of the array from a passive IR mode to an active LADAR mode, with the monolithic dual mode focal plane array having applications in missile target seekers and laser target designators. The switching is accomplished by increasing the gain of the array by as much as 30 times that associated with IR detection when laser return pulses are expected. Thus, there need be no mechanical changes to the array to afford both passive IR sensing and an active LADAR pulse detector. Nor need there be two different focal plane arrays, one for IR and one for laser radiation, which leads to boresighted alignment problems.

Non-cooperative laser target enhancement system and method

A system and method forming near diffraction limited size beacon for adaptive optical system using a temporally partially coherent laser source. Comprises projection of laser beams through turbulent medium having non-cooperative target using combination of adaptive optical system and short temporal coherence length laser source forming controllable focused laser target beacon. Combines adaptive optical system technology using any wavefront sensing technique making complex field measurements with short coherence length and associated broad spectral bandwidth. The partially coherent laser source forms narrow (near diffraction limited) size region of coherent laser light at target. The coherent region of return dominates signal for any measurement technique computing average of field over wavelength bandpass and can be used to pre-compensate either the partially coherent laser beam, a long coherence length beam of different wavelength or wavelength in bandpass, or both. Pre-compensation of the partially coherent laser beam can lead to signal-to-noise ratio enhancements.
