A decentralized asynchronous wireless communication system is disclosed for providing voice and data communication that allows flexibility of communication paths for local communication or for communication to external networks. The system makes use of communication docking bays that may communicate in a local mode with other communication docking bays or handsets within a same microcell via signal extenders. In an extended mode, a communication docking bay located in a first microcell of a first macrocell may communicate with a second communication docking bay or handset in a second microcell of the first macrocell via signal extenders and a network extender. In a remote mode, a communication docking bay located in a first microcell of a first macrocell may communicate with a second communication docking bay or handset in a second microcell of a second macrocell via signal extenders and network extenders. The communication docking bays also provide a communication path to a Public Switch Telephone Network and other communication medium. This feature provides an alternate means of connecting a mobile handset to a Public Switch Telephone Network without communicating through a network extender. The system is particularly suitable for operation in rural areas having a low population density.

Method and apparatus for producing three-dimensional objects

The invention concerns a method for producing three-dimensional objects (6) layer by layer using a powdery material which can be solidified by irradiating it with a beam (4) of charged particles, which method comprises the following steps: successive application of powder layers to a working area (5), and fusing together successive layers of said three-dimensional object (6) by successively irradiating the powdery layers with said beam (4). The invention is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: determining whether lifting of powdery material from the working area (5) occurs using a powder-lifting detection device (10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 1Od, 1Oe) capable of generating a signal (S) upon detection of lifting of powdery material from the working area (5), and interrupting the irradiation of at least a part of the working area (5) where powder lifting occurs using the signal (S) generated by the powder-lifting detection device (10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, 1Oe) for automatically trigging the interruption. The invention also concerns an apparatus (1) for producing three-dimensional objects (6) layer by layer using a powdery material which can be solidified by irradiating it with a beam (4) of charged particles, said apparatus (1) comprising means for successive application of powder layers to a work table, and a radiation gun (3) for delivering said beam (4) of charged particles, wherein the inventive apparatus (1) comprises a powder-lifting detection device (10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, 10e) capable of generating a signal (S) upon detection of lifting of powdery material from the working area (5).

The present invention relates to a plasma-generating device comprising an anode, a cathode and an elongate plasma channel which extends substantially in the direction from said cathode to said anode. Said throttling portion divides said plasma channel into a high pressure chamber, which is positioned on a side of the throttling portion closest to the cathode, and has a first maximum cross-sectional surface transversely to the longitudinal direction of the plasma channel, and a low pressure chamber, which opens into said anode and has a second maximum cross-sectional surface transversely to the longitudinal direction of the plasma channel, said throttling portion having a third cross-sectional surface transversely to the longitudinal direction of the plasma channel which is smaller than said first maximum cross-sectional surface and said second maximum cross-sectional surface. Moreover at least one intermediate electrode is arranged between said cathode and said throttling portion.
