Suturing apparatus and method

A suturing apparatus is adapted for joining two objects which define a near side and a far side. The apparatus includes an elongate support structure having a working channel and an axis extending between a proximal end and a distal end. The structural support is adapted to be positioned over a guidewire extending between the two objects, in an operative position wherein the proximal end is disposed on the near side and the distal end as disposed on the far side. Removal of the guidewire permits use of a stylet for positioning a suture to extend within the working channel from the proximal end to the distal end. A pair of hooks are movable from a proximal position at the proximal end of the support structure through the objects and a pair of slots in the support structure, to a distal position wherein the hooks engage the suture within the working channel at the distal end of the support structure. The actuator is then operable to move the hooks and the engaged suture from the distal position to the proximal position in order to facilitate tying of the suture and joining of the two objects. Alternatively, suture loops can be carried through the objects by unidirectional hooks and into the working channel. The hooks can then be withdrawn leaving the suture loops in the working channel where they can be engaged by a snare and withdrawn proximally between the two objects. Suturing pledgets can be added to the suturing apparatus prior to operative disposition, and a backing member can be provided to support at least the pledgets when the hook passes through the object.

Method and system for monitoring a supply-chain

A method of monitoring supply chain activity throughout a plurality of supply chain sites includes extracting, at each supply chain site, supply-related data to be monitored. The data is maintained in plural formats at the supply chain sites, and translated the data to a common format. The extracted data is then uploaded to and collected, from each supply chain site, to a data collection center or site. Upon a user request, a portion of the collected data is formatted, at the data collection site, into one of a plurality of views, responsive to criteria selected by the user, for presentation to the user, the portion of formatted data being dependent on access rights granted to the user's supply chain site. Finally, the formatted data view is published to the user's supply chain site. The data collection center comprises a data collector in which the uploaded data is stored, and a publisher for publishing data from the data collector upon request. Each supply chain site has a data storage device for maintaining its own supply-chain data, a data transfer engine (DTE), for transferring the supply-chain data to the data collection center, input means for allowing a user to query the data collector, and a display for displaying data published by the publisher in response to a query. The inbound data received from the multiple supply chain sites is monitored at the data collection site. If a problem condition is detected, such as a forecasted or present shortage or surplus, an alert is asserted, for example, by highlighting an Alert indicator, such as an Alert tab, on a user screen. Upon selection of the highlighted Alert indicator by a user, details of the detected problem condition are displayed.

System and method for resource management

A system and method that standardizes, automates, and facilitates the process of identifying, evaluating, selecting, and managing product and service resources for both individual and business resource users within specific industries. In one embodiment, this resource management system includes a web-based or other computer server with at least one database containing data related to product and service resources within a specific industry that can be searched and queried by the user, and at least one resource management system application that contains business rules and industry-specific or user-based criteria, qualitative and/or quantitative resource evaluation standards, and/or other guidelines or reference points, that, when applied to the product and service resource data, generates a resource-related selection, recommendation, rating, ranking, descriptive result, or other action or result that helps the user understand the resource options and the relative merits of the resource options for the user's particular needs, based in large part upon resource criteria chosen by the user, so that the user can make intelligent, informed, efficient, and timely decisions in sourcing, selecting, and managing these product and service resources. In this embodiment, the combination of unbiased industry-specific database information, unbiased industry-specific criteria and/or evaluation standards, and industry-specific search and querying capabilities, accessible on demand by the user, provides the user with a more accurate, precise, higher quality result that is reliable, immediately actionable, and can save the user time, money, and undesirable product or service performance results and/or customer service experiences. In another embodiment, this resource management system may further include software components that provide interactive communication and/or transactional capabilities for users and/or providers of the product and service resources, thus further facilitating the resource management process for both resource users and resource providers in a specific industry.
