Various techniques of simple modifications to TCP/IP protocol and other susceptible protocols and related network's switches/routers configurations, are presented for immediate ready implementations over external Internet of virtually congestion free guaranteed service capable network, without requiring use of existing QoS/MPLS techniques nor requiring any of the switches/routers softwares within the network to be modified or contribute to achieving the end-to-end performance results nor requiring provision of unlimited bandwidths at each and every inter-node links within the network.

Executable instructions identify potential security vulnerabilities within program instructions based upon input from an attack database and information derived during a static analysis of the program instructions. Vulnerability tests are applied to the program instructions in view of the security vulnerabilities. Performance results from the vulnerability tests are analyzed. This application describes, among other things, a framework of Media-independent Pre-Authentication (MPA), a new handover optimization mechanism that has a potential to address issues on existing mobility management protocols and mobility optimization mechanisms. MPA is a mobile-assisted, secure handover optimization scheme that works over any link-layer and with any mobility management protocol. This application also shows, among other things, an initial implementation of MPA in our testbed and some performance results to show how existing protocols could be leveraged to realize the functionalities of MPA.

A method and apparatus for efficiently matching a large collection of user profiles against a large volume of data in a webcasting system. The invention generally includes in one embodiment four steps to parallelize the profiles. First, an initial profile set is partitioned into several subsets also referred to as sub-partitions using various heuristic methods. Second, each sub-partition is mapped onto one or more independent processing units. Each processing unit is not required to have equal processing performance. However, for best performance results, subset data should be mapped in one embodiment where the subset with a highest cost is mapped to a fastest processor, and the next highest cost subset mapped to the next fastest processor. Where appropriate, the invention evaluates the relative subset processing speed of each processor and adjusts future subset mapping based upon these evaluations. For each information item I that needs to be matched with a profile predicate, a third and a fourth step are executed. The third step broadcasts I to all processing units, and a fourth step performs a sequential profile match on I.

Featured is a method or process for reducing contention of a highly contended software lock(s) that is protecting multiple data items, where the software has a plurality of code paths accessing the data items. The method includes creating additional partition locks to protect subsets of the data items protected by the existing global lock. Such a method further includes acquiring all partition locks and the global lock, wherever a global lock would have been acquired to protect data. The method also includes identifying one or more heavily used code paths and determining which data items are touched by the identified one or more heavily used code paths. These data items are then moved into a partition, if they were not partitioned earlier. The locking requirements for each of the identified one or more heavily used code paths are optimized to match the reduced locking requirements because of the partitioned data items. In other words the locking requirements are reduced so only the locks for the partitions including the data items that touch the code path are acquired. In more specific embodiments, the so-modified software is evaluated to determine if there is an acceptable increase in overall system performance resulting from the optimization of the locking requirements. If the modified system's performance is not acceptable, then the next most heavily used code path is identified and the locking requirements for this code path are optimized. Such optimization is continued until the system exhibits an acceptable overall system performance or all code paths are optimized.
