Distributed traffic controller for network data

A distributed gateway for controlling computer network data traffic dynamically reconfigures traffic assignments among multiple gateway machines for increased network availability. If one of the distributed gateway machines becomes unavailable, traffic assignments are moved among the multiple machines such that network availability is substantially unchanged. The machines of the distributed gateway form a cluster and communicate with each other using a Group Membership protocol word such that automatic, dynamic traffic assignment reconfiguration occurs in response to machines being added and deleted from the cluster, with no loss in functionality for the gateway overall, in a process that is transparent to network users, thereby providing a distributed gateway functionality that is scalable. Operation of the distributed gateway remains consistent as machines are added and deleted from the cluster. A scalable, distributed, highly available, load balancing network gateway is thereby provided, having multiple machines that function as a front server layer between the network and a back-end server layer having multiple machines functioning as Web file servers, FTP servers, or other application servers. The front layer machines comprise a server cluster that performs fail-over and dynamic load balancing for both server layers.

Moving robot

Within a moving robot of narrow footprint, having quick traveling performance on a plane-surface, as well as, anti-tumbling function, and further being suitable for operations under coexistence with a human being, being able to travel coping with traveling situations on a level difference, etc.: in front and rear of main driving wheels 2 and 3, each being controlled through the inverted pendulum control, are disposed supporting legs 4 and 5, tips of which can be lifted up and down, wherein the tips of the supporting legs 4 and 5 are positioned to keep a predetermined distance between a traveling surface, when running on the inverted two-wheels travel, and the supporting legs 4 and 5 are fixed or either one in the fall-down direction is thrust out into the fall-down direction, so as to protect it from falling down. Further, upon the basis of detection information of floor-surface distance sensors 4e and 5e and side-surface distance sensor 4f, 4g, 5f and 5g, which are provided at the tips of the supporting legs 4 and 5, the robot senses an existence of a level difference and/or an inclined surface, so as to let the supporting legs to escape from the level difference and/or the inclined surface, and holds the position of gravity center thereof, stably, through other one of the supporting legs, being landed on the ground, and the main driving wheels 2 and 3; thereby enabling to travel over the level difference and the inclines surface.

Incremental and collocated redistribution for expansion of online shared nothing database

Provided are a system, method and computer program product for redistribution of data in an online shared nothing database, said shared nothing database comprising a plurality of original partitions and at least one new partition. Said method comprising: a collocation-set identifier for identifying two or more collocated tables in the original partitions to be redistributed over the original partitions and at least one new partition, said tables having data rows, each data row residing on a partition governed by a distribution key; a table factory for creating corresponding new tables in the new partition; a view creator for creating a UNION ALL view of all the data from both the original and new tables using the check constraints, said check constraints in turn based on the distribution keys; a counter for defining a loop of intervals over the distribution key range; a data mover for performing data movement of each data row over the current distribution key interval from the original tables to the new tables; a data changer for altering the check constraints for each distribution key interval so that the UNION ALL view is preserved thereby ensuring collocation and data integrity is maintained; a loop finisher for looping back for the next distribution key interval until all the distribution key intervals have been processed such that all the data has been moved to the new table whereby collocation and data integrity is maintained, redistribution is transparent for queries performed on the database, and tables are fully available during redistribution for read and write.
