Embodiment Construction

[0028] The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the disclosure, its application, or uses.

[0029] refer to figure 1 , generally depicts a heat exchanger tube 10 for a vehicle cooling system according to several aspects of the present disclosure. Tube 10 includes a first end 12, a second end 14 and a wall 16 formed from a single sheet of formable material. It should be understood that the tube 10 described herein is made of aluminum, although the tube 10 may be made of any formable material having suitable thermal and structural properties. Wall 16 has an outer surface 18 and an inner surface 20 and defines a first side 22 and a second side 24 . The first and second sides 22 and 24 are spaced apart from each other in parallel planes and extend longitudinally between the first end 12 and the second end 14 . Tube 10 also includes a first distal end portion 26 , a second distal end portion 28 , a first edge 30 , and a second edge 32 ...

Abstract

A heat exchanger tube for an automobile cooling system comprises a first end, a second end and a wall formed from a unitary sheet of formable material. The wall has an outer surface and an inner surface and includes a first side and a second side spaced apart and parallel to one another extending longitudinally between the first end and the second end, a first distal end, a second distal end, a first edge, a second edge, a first partition, a second partition and a compound partition extending between the first and second sides longitudinally between the first and second ends and defining fourfluid channels extending longitudinally between the first and second ends.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to tubes for heat exchangers, and more particularly to heat exchanger tubes for cooling systems in vehicles. Background technique [0002] Due to the increased demand for heat removal, larger heat exchangers with deeper tube core depths are required. Die depth can be increased by using wider tubes or by using multiple tube rows. Multiple tubes require more material and more assembly time, thus increasing mass and cost. Increasing the depth of individual tubes is a better approach. Deeper tubes will accommodate more coolant flow, increasing heat transfer and reducing pressure drop. The structural limitations of a single tube are evident in reducing thermal and pressure cycling capabilities. Using a single tube in a deep die format reduces the overall die depth, reduces mass and pressure drop, but often does not provide enough structural support inside the tube to withstand the heat and pressure demands. Therefore, the...
