Abstract

Binning-based transmit beamforming for a wireless communication system includes determining a temporal correlation of beamforming vectors estimated from a current hopping channel and previous transmissions on one or more adjacent channels using one or more binning architectures and frequency dependencies, the one or more binning architectures exploit channel dependencies in both frequency and time dimensions. These binning architectures include global binning, local binning, and adaptive versions of both global and local binning. The inventive system determines one or more beamforming weights for the current hopping channel according to the binning architecture, and uses transmit beamforming to provide a signal for transmission based on the one or more beamforming weights.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication devices, and in particular, to binning-based transmit beamforming for wireless communication systems. Background technique [0002] In wireless communications such as Bluetooth, each connection event begins with a master device transmitting and a slave device receiving. Next, continue to transmit from the device and receive from the master device. Due to this standardized transmit-receive order of the master and slave, transmit (Tx) beamforming is hindered by the difficulty of obtaining the latest beamforming vectors at the master. In particular, the master device may estimate the beamforming vector while receiving packets with known preambles from the slave device. Since the master transmits first and then receives, the latest beamforming vector is not available at the master during Tx beamforming in the transmit slot. In fact, when Tx beamforming is complete, the latest estimate of...
