Embodiment Construction

[0015] The following description relates to methods for predicting torque requests in a vehicle based on objects or locations external to the vehicle and controlling the engine accordingly, such as included in figure 1 and figure 2 A system and method for deceleration fuel cutoff (DFSO) in an engine in a vehicle system of a vehicle system. The control routine may be implemented at a controller further included in the vehicle system and configured to adjust one or more engine operating conditions to control the DFSO. For example, the control program can be in Figure 3A and 3B The method for predicting the torque request and controlling the DFSO as described in . Torque requests may be predicted based on detected objects or locations external to the vehicle. As an example, Figure 4A and Figure 4B The detection of a target vehicle and a changed speed zone on which the process for predicting the torque request may then depend is schematically depicted, respectively. exi...

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a system and a method for controlling deceleration fuel cutoff. A system and a method are provided for controlling deceleration fuel cutoff (DFSO) in response to an external object or location, such as a target vehicle. In one example, a method may include: determining a range rate of change from the target vehicle while operating an engine at DFSO; and commanding exit of the DFSO based on the range rate of change. By exiting the DFSO based on the rate of range change, torque lash experienced by the driver may be reduced accordingly as compared to exiting the DFSO based on, for example, one or more powertrain operating conditions.

Description

technical field [0001] The present description generally relates to systems and methods for controlling deceleration fuel cutoff in a vehicle in response to detection of an object or location external to the vehicle. Background technique [0002] Deceleration Fuel Cutoff (DFSO) is a fuel saving feature of some vehicles with internal combustion engines. Specifically, DFSO may improve fuel economy by deactivating one or more fuel injectors during vehicle deceleration. Typically, DFSO control is enabled based on various powertrain operating conditions, such as engine load or engine speed. The method for controlling the DFSO in this manner may be implemented in a memory of a controller included in the vehicle. Thus, during DFSO, the controller may be configured to respond to threshold adjustments to engine load or engine speed, eg, by exiting DFSO. As such DFSO control methods have changed in response to one or more of the driveline operating conditions, a corresponding delay...
