Abstract
The invention discloses a novel medicinal application of catalpol. The novel application refers to application of catalpol in preparation of a product for preventing and/or treating optic neuritis. The prevention and/or treatment of optic neuritis is embodied in at least one of the following aspects: (a1) the neurological function impairment induced by the optic neuritis is significantly relieved; (a2) optic nerve demyelination is significantly relieved; and (a3) the activation of optic nerve astrocytes and the nuclear expression of a signaling pathway p-STAT 3 of the optic nerve astrocytes are obviously alleviated and/or inhibited. According to the invention, the research shows that the catalpol can obviously relieve nerve injury caused by optic neuritis and reduce activation of astrocytes of inflammation sites, and can reduce the nuclear expression of p-STAT3 in astrocytes, relieve inflammatory injury, reduce optic nerve demyelination and protect optic nerves. The results indicate that the catalpol can obviously relieve pathological changes of optic neuritis and make up for the deficiency of modern medicine in treatment of optic neuritis, with very high clinical value and economic benefits.
Description
technical field [0001] The invention belongs to the field of medicine, and in particular relates to the application of catalpol in treating optic neuritis. Background technique [0002] Optic neuritis is an inflammation of the optic nerve with a variety of etiologies. In temperate regions and in Caucasian populations, it is often associated with multiple sclerosis. The worldwide incidence of unilateral optic neuritis varies from 0.94 to 2.18 per 100,000 population per year. Studies have confirmed that the incidence rate of women is higher than that of men. And the incidence of optic neuritis in the northern hemisphere was higher in spring at high latitudes and in people of Nordic ancestry. Optic neuritis typically presents with subacute loss of monocular vision with pain on eye movement. Vision loss usually occurs within hours or days. At present, the treatment of acute optic neuritis by Western medicine mostly adopts high-dose hormone shock therapy, and vasodilators an...
