Abstract

The invention discloses a novel application of metformin, namely, the metformin can activate female germline stem cells and promote proliferation of the female germline stem cells, so that follicular development disorder diseases such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and premature ovarian failure are improved; the invention discloses the application of the metformin to preparation of a medicine for activating the female germline stem cells and the application of the metformin to preparation of the medicine for preventing and / or treating the polycystic ovarian syndrome by activating the female germline stem cells. Experimental results prove that the metformin is applied to activation of the female germline stem cells. The metformin can activate the female germline stem cells, promote cell proliferation and improve an ovarian reserve function and a follicle development process. The metformin also can effectively improve abnormal PCOS glucose tolerance, weight gain, abnormal ovulation and polycystic ovarian lesion, and improves the polycystic ovarian syndrome by activating the female germline stem cells. According to the application of the metformin in activation of the female germline stem cells, evidence and basis are provided for directly utilizing the metformin to activate the generation and proliferation of the female germline stem cells.
