Abstract

A vehicle body anomaly is detected using sound. A system for detecting damage to a vehicle body is disclosed. One or more ultrasonic transceivers are mounted on a portion of the vehicle body and configured to transmit and receive ultrasonic waves. The one or more controllers are coupled to the one or more ultrasonic transceivers. The one or more controllers are programmed to cause the ultrasonic transceiver to transmit a first ultrasonic wave and receive a first reflected ultrasonic wave, store first sound characteristic data related to the first reflected ultrasonic wave in the memory, cause the ultrasonic transceiver to transmit a second ultrasonic wave and receive the second ultrasonic wave, and determining the presence of a damage on the portion of the vehicle body based on second sound feature data relating to the second reflected ultrasonic waves deviating from the first sound feature data.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the use of sound to detect vehicle body anomalies. Background technique [0002] Vehicles are susceptible to body damage. Dents, kinks, and scratches are all too common on vehicles, whether it's from touching another vehicle on the road, or even as small as accidentally hitting an object while trying to stop. Owners of fleets such as car rental companies, robo-taxi services, etc. are of course aware of the damage their vehicles may sustain. Because many different people lease or temporarily use these vehicles, it can be difficult for fleet owners to determine who caused damage to the vehicles. Vehicle owners may want to know and understand when damage to a vehicle occurs, and who is responsible for the damage. Contents of the invention [0003] In one embodiment, a system for detecting damage on a vehicle body includes an ultrasonic transceiver mounted on a portion of the vehicle body and configured to transmit an...
