Embodiment Construction

[0019] Embodiments described herein relate to systems and methods for performing federated searches. Federated search involves sending search queries to multiple searchable content repositories or endpoints. As used herein, an endpoint is a search application capable of accessing searchable content that can receive a search query and return appropriate search results based on the query. A corresponding search engine can perform a search of the searchable content associated with the endpoint. Each endpoint can include a corpus of documents (eg, articles, books, brochures, tutorials, images, reviews, etc.) that can be searched by a search engine based on a received query. An endpoint may include a corpus containing a single type of document (eg, books) or may include a corpus containing multiple types of documents (eg, books and news articles).

[0020] Additionally, each endpoint typically has a search index created from an associated document corpus. When building a search ...

Abstract

A method includes receiving, at a computing device, a search query; performing, by the computing device, a semantic analysis of the search query to identify one or more semantic concepts contained within the query; selecting, by the computing device, one or more corpora or a portion thereof based on the identified semantic concepts; and performing, by the computing device, a search for one or more corpora based on the search query.

Background technique [0004] Existing information retrieval or search applications typically involve a corpus comprising a large number of documents, which is indexed to allow easy searching of the corpus by search engines. When a search application rece...
