Problems solved by technology

However, in a multi-stream scenario, the requested LBAs may be received interleaved and out-of-order by the SSD, which is similar to random reads, and can lead to the same challenges as above, such as increased read latency and read amplification, and SSD performance and reduced lifespan

Abstract

One embodiment provides a system that facilitates data management. The system receives, by a storage device, a first plurality of logical block addresses (LBAs) and corresponding stream identifiers via read requests from a plurality of streams. The system assigns a respective LBA to a first queue of the plurality of queues based on a flow identifier corresponding to the LBA. In response to determining that the second plurality of LBAs in the first queue have a similar order pattern: the system retrieves data associated with the second plurality of LBAs from a non-volatile memory of the storage device; the system stores the retrieved data and the second plurality of LBAs in a volatile memory of the storage device while bypassing the data processing operation.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of data storage. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to a method and system for facilitating multi-stream sequential read performance improvements and reducing read amplification. Background technique [0002] Today, various storage systems are used to store and access an ever-increasing amount of digital content. A storage system may include a storage server having one or more storage devices or drives, such as solid state drives (SSDs). Data may be stored in the SSD's non-volatile storage medium, such as non-NAND (NAND) flash memory. SSDs continue to evolve with increasing capacity and parallelism. However, the file system continues to use a relatively smaller access granularity (eg 4KB) than the basic read unit of NAND flash (eg 16KB). As a result, most of the data physically read from a NAND page is discarded after being sensed. This can lead to non-trivial read amplification ...
