Embodiment Construction

[0014] While the specification concludes with claims which particularly point out and distinctly claim the invention, it is contemplated that the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description of the invention and from a study of the included drawings.

[0015] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides absorbent articles having a topsheet having elongated slit openings in communication with interstitial spaces for receiving body exudates. The slit opening is defined by longitudinally extending sides having elastic regions aligned along at least a portion of the sides. The elastic regions maintain longitudinal and lateral alignment with the wearer's expelled position and maintain the Z-direction proximate thereto. When the article is donned by the wearer, the elastic region contains stored elastic energy that generates a pulling force directed outwardly of the slit opening and distributed laterally along the slit opening that allows pa...

Abstract

The invention relates to an absorbent, disposable article, preferably a diaper, having a backsheet and a topsheet comprising a first waist region, a second waist region, and a crotch region interposed there between, a longitudinal axis, and an opening, which provides a passageway to a primary void space for receiving bodily exudates therein, positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet,; whereby the opening is positioned in at least the crotch region along the longitudinal axis; whereby the topsheet is elasticated; and whereby the article has a shortened article portion, as defined herein, which has a shortened article length L, a stretched shortened article length Ls and a contracted shortened article length Lc, whereby the article and / or its topsheet has an specific elastic profile and / or a specific ratio of Lc to Ls. The article preferably has a slit opening with on each side elastic regions, preferably in the shape of an X, as shown in figure 1, and preferably making an angle with the adjacent topsheet and thereby bending away from the void space underneath the topsheet. An absorbent article having a void space for receiving bodily exudates comprises an elongate slit opening in communication with the void space. The elongate slit opening includes elasticated region disposed along longitudinal side edges of the slit opening which maintain longitudinal and lateral alignment and Z-direction proximity with a point of discharge on a wearer during use. The elasticated regions contain stored elastic energy producing tensile forces which are distributed laterally away from the slit opening enabling the edges to deflect and allow bodily exudates to pass through the slit opening to the void space.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to hygienic absorbent articles such as diapers, training pants, adult incontinence products, feminine protection products and the like. Background of the invention [0002] Wearable absorbent articles are well known in the art. These articles typically have an absorbent core which is held or rested against the body by a fastening system during use so that bodily exudates are captured by the article. A typical absorbent article comprises a topsheet which faces the wearer and allows liquid exudates to pass therethrough, and a backsheet which prevents exudates from escaping from the absorbent article. [0003] Since the introduction of disposable absorbent articles, many advances have been made in this field. However, there are still problems related to the reception and storage of feces. This problem is difficult to solve because feces generally cannot pass through the topsheet and therefore continue to move freely on ...
