Embodiment Construction

[0076] Referring to Figures 1-13, there is shown a power tool, such as a saw, circular saw 10, etc., to which the present invention pertains. In some configurations and some aspects, circular saw 10 is a metal cutting circular saw. In other aspects and other configurations, the circular saw 10 is operable to cut workpieces of other materials, such as wood, fibers, and the like.

[0077] Circular saw 10 (see FIG. 4 ) includes a saw blade 15 rotatable about axis A-A in a plane substantially perpendicular to axis A-A (eg, in a counterclockwise direction in FIG. 4 ). Saw blade 15 includes a plurality of teeth 20 adapted to cut workpieces made of one or more types of materials. For example, in the illustrated construction, the saw blade 15 has teeth 20 configured to effectively cut metal. In other configurations (not shown), the saw blade may include teeth suitable for cutting other materials, such as wood, fiberboard, and the like.

[0078] Each tooth 20 includes a sharp leadin...

Abstract

Power tools, such as, saws and circular saws, and methods. In some constructions and in some aspects, a saw includes a housing, a motor, a cover, and a quick-locking member operable to releasably lock the cover to the housing without tools. In some constructions and in some aspects, a saw includes a housing, a motor, a first cover connected to the housing, the first cover at least partially covering a saw blade, and a second cover selectively connectable to the housing, the second cover at least partially covering the first cover and at least partially covering the saw blade. In some constructions and in some aspects, a method of disassembling a saw including moving a locking member from a first position to a second position without the use of tools, and removing a cover from a housing to at least partially uncover the saw blade.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of prior copending Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 415,081, filed October 1, 2002. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to power tools, and more particularly, the present invention relates to circular saws. Background technique [0004] Typically, a circular saw includes a housing and a motor supported by the housing. The motor is used to drive the saw blade to cut workpieces made of various materials such as metal, fiber and wood. During workpiece cutting, the circular saw advances cutting chips through the work site. The propelled fragments can injure people in the workplace by engaging exposed skin or flying into people's eyes. [0005] Some circular saws include a removable blade cover that covers the upper portion of the blade. Removing the blade cover is tedious and requires the use of tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and the like. Such onerous removal of th...
