Embodiment Construction

[0051] A rock drilling machine 99 according to a first embodiment of the invention and shown in Figures 1-3 has a housing comprising an end cover 1, a main body 2 and a rotor housing 3, all preferably made of corrosion resistant steel or stainless steel. The main body 2 includes a cylinder 50 within which the percussion piston 14 reciprocates.

[0052] Chuck 4 is free to rotate about a longitudinal axis in chuck bearings 5 , 6 and 7 . The chuck 4 is also limited axially by chuck bearings 5 and 6 . The chuck 4 is preferably made of through-hardened martensitic stainless steel. The chuck bearings 5 , 6 , 7 are preferably made of an engineering plastic such as polyester or acetal and are extrusion fitted into the inner diameter of the rotor housing 3 . A hexagonal pad 8 is fixedly connected to the chuck 4 as is well known and serves to transmit rotational motion from the chuck 4 to the drill rod 9 . The ratchet ring 10 is free to rotate about its longitudinal axis on the...

Abstract

The invention relates to a pneumatic rockdrill (99) comprising: a housing, including an air supply inlet for receiving compressed air, and a cylinder (50), connected to the air supply inlet by a set of air passages; an impact piston (14), at least part of which is reciprocable within the cylinder (50); and air-flow control means for controlling the supply of compressed air from the air supply inlet to the cylinder (50); the rockdrill (99) including at least one pair of corresponding contact surfaces at which relatively-moving parts contact one another; and the rockdrill being characterized by including at least one water supply inlet and water paths connected to the water supply inlet(s) and configured so as in operation to convey water to a drilling tool so as to flush a hole being drilled and to supply water to wet the aforesaid contact surfaces.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a pneumatic reciprocating rock drill. Background technique [0002] Pneumatic impact rock drills are well known. Such machines typically include an impact motor including a piston that reciprocates within a housing and is configured to deliver reciprocating impact to the end of the drill in operation. Pneumatic rock drills are also typically equipped with rotating devices to rotate the drill. This rotating means may be a pneumatic swing motor independent of the impact motor or a mechanical coupling such as the well known shuttle rod mechanism. [0003] Pneumatic percussion rock drills are also typically equipped with a small diameter rigid tube that passes from the rear of the rock drill and ends just short of the impact face of the drill. This tube passes through the hole in the center of the piston and is more or less concentric with the hole along the center of the drill. This tube terminates in an external hose connecti...
