[0116] 2-1. Structure of Optical Disc Device

[0117] As shown in FIG. 8 , the optical disc device 30 corresponding to the optical disc device 10 (see FIG. 1 ) records information such as music content, video content, or various data items on the optical disc 100 (eg, BD-RE and BD-ROM) and reproduces it information on the disc 100.

[0118] The system controller 31 controls the optical disc device 30 as a whole. When receiving a command from an external device (not shown) instructing to play back information on the optical disc 100 located in the optical disc device 30 , the system controller 31 will be used to identify the address of the information recorded in the signal recording layer of the optical disc 100 The information IA and the information readout command MR are sent to the drive control unit 33 .

[0119] In response to the information read command MR received from the system controller 31, the drive control unit 33 controls the spindle motor 34 to rotate the opt...

[0240] 3-1. Structure of the optical pickup

[0241] The same units and modules as those in FIGS. 9 and 10 are denoted by the same reference numerals in FIG. 23 , and as shown in FIG. 23 , the optical pickup 120 according to the second embodiment has the same structure as the optical pickup according to the first embodiment. The structural part of the pickup 36 is different. Unlike the optical pickup 36, in the optical pickup 120, the main optical elements of the optical integrated element 40 are provided independently.

[0242] Under the control of the system controller 31 (see FIG. 8 ), the optical pickup 120 controls the laser diode 51 to emit the output beam L11 . Then, the optical pickup 120 rotates the polarization plane of the output beam L11 by a predetermined angle using the 1 / 2 wavelength plate 59 and causes the output beam L11 to enter the polarization prism 55 .

[0243] The polarizing film 55A of the polarizing prism 55 allows most of the output beam L11 to pass...

[0339] 5-1. Structure of the optical pickup

[0340] According to the fourth embodiment, the optical integrated element 141 (see FIG. 9 ) of the optical pickup 140 is different from the optical integrated element 40 of the first embodiment. Other components are configured like the optical pickup 36 of the first embodiment.

[0341] like Figure 10A As shown, the structure of the polarization filter 142 of the optical integrated element 141 is partially different from that of the polarization filter 54 of the first embodiment. The other elements are the same as those of the polarization filter 54 .

[0342] 5-2. Structure of polarizing filter

[0343] exist Figure 31 , the same elements as those illustrated and described in connection with FIG. 10 are denoted by the same reference numerals, as Figure 31 shown, with plates 54A to 54D (see Figure 10B ), the polarizing filter 142 includes laminated plate members 142A to 142D each in the shape of a thin plate. The polariz...

Abstract

An optical pickup includes a detector, a plurality of light guiding units, and a switching controller. The detector detects, using a plurality of detection areas, a reflected light beam that is emitted from a predetermined light source and is reflected off an optical recording medium. Each of the light guiding units has a specific light guide pattern and inputs a predetermined part of the reflected light beam to a predetermined detection area in accordance with the light guide pattern. The switching controller switches and selects the light guiding unit that acts on the reflected light beam from among the plurality of light guiding units according to a predetermined switching condition.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an optical pickup and an optical information device suitable for use in an optical disc apparatus for handling different types of optical discs, such as digital versatile disc read only memory (DVD-ROM) and recordable digital versatile disc (DVD-ROM) -R). Background technique [0002] In recent years, optical disc apparatuses for recording information such as music content, video content, or various data on an optical disc serving as a recording medium and reproducing the information read out from the optical disc have become widespread. [0003] In practice, an optical disc apparatus emits a write beam to a concentric track or a spiral track formed on a signal recording layer of an optical disc to generate pits having a predetermined shape and record information. Furthermore, the optical disc apparatus emits a read beam to the track and reads out the reflected beam to reproduce information. [0004] At this time, the...
