Problems solved by technology

This will cause a problem because after the preservation solution is spilled on the package, when the lid is heat sealed to the package, the plastic starts to flow during the heat sealing process, causing the solution to become trapped between the flowing plastic and the wall 220

Embodiment Construction

[0012] Figure 1 shows a single-use plastic overlay package for holding contact lenses. Referring to Fig. 1, package 10 generally includes a support base 12 having a pocket area 14 for receiving a contact lens (not shown). Typically, the contact lens is placed in well 14 along with an aqueous preservation solution, such as a buffered saline solution. Package 10 may be molded from polypropylene, polystyrene or similar plastics. Base 12 includes a flange 15 with a top surface 16 . The flange 15 completely surrounds the pocket 14 and, as shown, also includes a raised seal 20 around a perimeter 28 , that is, around the contour of the pocket 14 on the top surface 16 . During use, the contact lens is immersed in a certain amount of aqueous solution for preservation in the recess 14, and the cover is closed so that at least the raised sealing block 20 or substantially the entire top surface 16 can be covered, generally , heat seal the closure over the raised sealing block 20 , ther...

Abstract

The present invention provides a single-use contact lens package comprising a base having a top surface and a recess having a perimeter on the top surface, the recess receiving the contact lens, the top surface comprising a raised sealing block surrounding the periphery of said recess, said convex surface having a cross-section comprising two rectilinear sides intersecting a horizontal plane at angles α and β respectively, wherein the angles α and β respectively have a value of 125° -170° range; it is characterized in that the package also includes a detachable cover and a raised sealing block for sealing.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to contact lens packages, particularly single use contact lens packages commonly referred to as blister packages. Background technique [0002] Soft hydrogel contact lenses have evolved into many varieties since they first appeared in the 1970s. Such contact lenses are conventionally packaged in a hydrated state and encased in a preservation solution. Currently, many contact lenses are packaged in single-use blister packs along with aqueous solutions for preservation. Examples of blister pack packages can be found in US Patents US4691820; US5524419; US5578331; US5649410 and US5722536, the entire disclosures of which are incorporated herein by reference. The base of the overlay package can be either part of the original contact lens mold or a separate molded base. Examples of molds used as part of the package can be found in US5036971; US5143660; US5407062 and US5573108, the entire disclosures of which are incorporated h...
