In an AIX environment, this functionality is provided by the Virtual Shared Disk (VSD) component through High Performance Switching (HPS). Abstract

Limit file access to failed nodes in a multi-node computer system. When a node failure indication is received, a quarantine command is sent to a disk in the disk subsystem accessible to the failed node. If the quarantine command sent to the disk fails, the quarantine command is sent to a server that has access to at least one disk in the disk subsystem accessible to the failed node to limit the failed node's access to the disks in the disk subsystem. If the quarantine command sent to the server does not result in restricting the failed node's access to all disks in the disk subsystem, a command is sent to other servers that have access to at least one disk in the disk subsystem to restrict the failed node's access to the disks in the disk subsystem. Quarantine commands can be sent to individual servers until the failed node's access to all disks in the disk subsystem is restricted or the quarantine commands have been sent to all servers.
