[0020] Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the present invention comprises a light transmission and detection system comprising a sensor 1, 2 comprising an LED and photodetector with suitable amplifiers 3, 4 as shown in Figure 2 . Once the sensors 1 , 2 are attached to the skin, the central control unit 5 calibrates the sensors by driving the LED 1 with a suitable voltage detecting the intermediate voltage from the photodetector 2 . The photodetector 2 signal is digitized by A / D1 and A / D2. The driving voltage for the LED is generated from the output of D / A1 and D / A2. Once the standard process is complete, the central control unit 5 collects data from the photodetectors 4 (Fig. 2) at a sampling rate appropriate for the application.
