Problems solved by technology

[0008] Feedback schemes have so far had a rather static behavior such that channel quality reports are made in a predetermined manner, which is not suitable for reacting to changes in channel conditions or changes in the properties of user terminals

Embodiment Construction

[0023] A network in which the present invention can be implemented includes user terminals and base stations.

[0024] Figure 1 shows an example of such a network CN comprising base stations BS1-BS8 and user terminals T1-T4.

[0025] Each of said user terminals T1-T4 is connected to one or more of said base stations BS1-BS8, which are symbolized in Figure 1 by a double arrow. The base stations BS1-BS8 are in turn connected to the core network, not shown in Figure 1 for simplicity.

[0026] The user terminals T1-T4 comprise user terminal functionality for transmission and reception in a network using OFDM transmission.

[0027] Furthermore, a user terminal T1-T4 according to the invention (for use in an OFDM system with at least one subcarrier group subdivided into at least one subgroup of subcarriers) comprises at least one processing device, wherein said at least one processing means is adapted to perform transmission of a channel quality indicator in a channel quality repo...

Abstract

The invention concerns a method for transmitting channel quality indicators in reports of channel quality of a group of subcarriers that is subdivided into at least one subgroup of subcarriers in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system from a user terminal (T1-T4) to a base station (BS1- BS8), whereby a channel quality indicator comprises information (RI, RD) that defines the subdivision of the group of subcarriers into subgroups in the next report of channel quality, and channel quality information (QI) for said subgroups in the next report of channel quality is comprised in a channel quality indicator in the next report of channel quality, a base station (BS1-BS8), a user terminal (T1-T4) and a network (CN) therefor.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method, a user terminal, a base station, and a network for transmitting a channel quality indicator (CQI) in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system. Background technique [0002] Currently, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) wireless systems are being discussed in many places such as 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE), WiFi standard IEEE 802.11 or WiMax standard IEEE 802.16. [0003] OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation technique. Data is distributed over a large number of closely spaced subcarriers. Several bits of the bit stream are mapped onto one subcarrier by modulating the complex amplitude by eg QPSK (QPSK=Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), 16-QAM or 64-QAM (QAM=Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). [0004] Frequency selective resource allocation algorithms such as adaptive modulation, subcarrier allocation and power control can enhance the performanc...
