[0004] Fig. 2A is a corresponding relationship between the output code and the period (reciprocal of time) of the low-pass filter of a traditional digital phase-locked loop with a digitally controlled oscillator, and Fig. 2B is a digitally controlled oscillator with non-overlapping sub-frequency bands The corresponding relationship diagram of the control code and the period (reciprocal of time) of the traditional digital phase-locked loop, however, for this digital phase-locked loop, each output code of the low-pass filter in Fig. 2A is corresponding to Fig. 2B The control code of the digitally controlled oscillator, please refer to Figure 2B, the traditional digital phase-locked loop of the digitally controlled oscillator with non-overlapping sub-bands will have a large frequency jump (frequency jump), or there is a frequency at the boundary of the sub-band Dead zone (frequency dead zone)
[0005] Fig. 3A is a corresponding relationship between the output code and the period (reciprocal of time) of the low-pass filter of a traditional digital phase-locked loop with a digitally controlled oscillator, and Fig. 3B is a traditional digitally controlled oscillator with overlapping sub-bands The corresponding relationship diagram of the control code and the period (reciprocal of time) of the digital phase-locked loop, however, for this digital phase-locked loop, each output code of the low-pass filter in Figure 3A corresponds to the number in Figure 3B For the control code of the oscillator, please refer to Figure 3B. The traditional digital phase-locked loop with digitally controlled oscillators with overlapping sub-bands still has a frequency deadzone at the boundary of the sub-bands, so frequency locking cannot be completed.

Embodiment Construction

[0030] In order to make the above-mentioned and other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention more obvious and easy to understand, preferred embodiments are given below, and in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, are described in detail as follows:

[0031] 4 is a block diagram of a digital phase-locked loop 400 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The digital phase-locked loop 400 includes a time to digital converter (TDC) 410 and a low pass filter (low pass filter). ; LPF, LF) 420 , a decoder 450 , a digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) 430 and a frequency divider 440 . The frequency divider 440 divides the frequency of the input signal by R and outputs the feedback signal FB. The time-to-digital converter 410 also receives a reference clock signal and generates a digital signal, the low-pass filter 420 receives the digital signal and generates an output code, and the decoder 450 receives the output code of the low-pass filter 420 ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method of frequency search for a digitally controlled oscillator and a decoder using same. The method comprises providing multiple workable pre-control codes, each control code comprising a most significant bit, corresponding to each frequency of the digitally controlled oscillator for selection; selecting one of the workable pre-control codes according to the most significant bit thereof; and providing the selected pre-control code to the digitally controlled oscillator. It is impossible to have the initial conditions or the frequency search problem for the digital phase-lock loop using the method of the invention caused by the frequent switching of the digital phase-lick loop in sub-band upon the digital phase-lock loop being in a lock frequency state, therefore, the digital phase-lock loop has a better jitter performance without circuit connection.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a digitally controlled oscillator, and more particularly, to a frequency search method for a digitally controlled oscillator and a decoder using the method. Background technique [0002] With the advancement of deep sub-micron manufacturing processes, the need for high-performance integrated circuits and their shortest time-to-market is increasing, and miniaturized microprocessor and graphics processor systems can be more cost-effectively migrated to more advanced manufacturing processes , to increase clock rates, reduce power consumption, and reduce design time, but synchronization between integrated circuit modules is also increasingly important, so considerable effort is focused on high-performance digital interfaces that act as bridges in these digital systems circuit, the digital phase-locked loop can be applied to different manufacturing processes, and furthermore, due to the benefits of the miniaturized CMOS manu...
