[0047] Figure 1 shows an exploded view of the chain operator of the present invention. The operator comprises a cast metal housing 1, for example a die-cast zinc housing. The metallic housing 1 has a substantially planar bottom wall 2 . A substantially cylindrical wall 3 extends from the inner side of the bottom wall 2 . The cylindrical wall 3 defines a hole in which the spindle 4 is located in a fixed manner. The end face 5 of the cylindrical wall 3 forms a bearing surface for a sprocket 6 arranged on the spindle 4 . The sprocket 6 forms part of a sprocket and gear 7 assembly. In the preferred embodiment, the assembly is formed by joining together two separate parts in fixed mechanical relationship, but it will be appreciated that it could also be integrally formed or separate parts linked only in a rotational direction.
