Problems solved by technology

Therefore, for the brightness components of pixels whose hue, chroma, lightness or brightness are close to the range specified by the user, the whitening process is not performed and output as image data, so there is the following problem: when printing a black and white image, the boundary of the range specified by the user very conspicuous, creating a sense of incongruity

Embodiment approach 1

[0045] 1 is a block diagram showing an example of a schematic configuration of an image processing apparatus according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention. As an example of an image processing apparatus, a digital multifunction peripheral 100 is shown, which includes a color scanner unit 10, an image processing part 20 and printer part 30. The color scanner unit 10 is an imaging device that irradiates a document to be read with light, receives reflected light from the document, and generates image data. Here, by scanning and irradiating light in the feeding direction of the original (paper), handwritten characters and printed patterns on the original are read. In addition, color image data composed of brightness data of at least three different colors is generated.

[0046] The image processing unit 20 performs an operation of generating black-and-white image data by changing the brightness value of the brightness data on the color image data read by the color scanner un...

Embodiment approach 2

[0108] In Embodiment 1, an example was described in which a pixel of a hue specified by the user is increased in brightness value and whitened when printing a monochrome image. In this embodiment, however, a case will be described in which the luminance value of a pixel of a hue designated by the user is lowered in order to emphasize a portion written in a specific color.

[0109] 12 is a diagram showing an example of the operation of the image processing device according to Embodiment 2 of the present invention, showing curves D1 and D2 representing conversion tables used when changing luminance values to emphasize a specific hue. Comparing the image processing device of this embodiment with the digital multifunction peripheral 100 of Embodiment 1, the only difference lies in the conversion table used when changing the luminance value of a pixel whose hue belongs to a specific hue region. Other structures are the same as those in Embodiment 1.

[0110] Curve D1 is a straig...

Embodiment approach 3

[0119] In Embodiment 2, an example of a case where the luminance value is lowered for pixels in a hue region designated by the user was described. On the other hand, in this embodiment, a case will be described in which the luminance value of pixels belonging to a hue region specified by the user is decreased, and the luminance value of pixels not belonging to the hue region is increased.

[0120] In the image processing device according to this embodiment, the luminance value of pixels belonging to the hue region specified by the hue specification information is changed according to the conversion table. That is, processing for lowering the luminance value of the pixel is performed. On the other hand, processing of increasing the luminance value is performed for pixels that do not belong to the hue area specified by the hue specifying information.

[0121] According to such a configuration, since the luminance value of pixels in a hue area specified by the user is lowered an...

Abstract

The invention provides an image processing apparatus and image processing method. The image processing apparatus includes a hue specifying unit, a pixel extracting unit and a luminance data converting unit. The hue specifying unit generates hue specification information that specifies a hue to be converted on the basis of a user operation. The pixel extracting unit extracts pixels having a hue specified by the hue specification information from the color image on the basis of the hue obtained from chromaticity data. The luminance data converting unit carries out processing on the luminance data of the pixels extracted in the pixel extracting step using a function which lowers the upper limit value of luminance and increases in a monotone within a predetermined range including the upper limit value to convert the luminance value, so that a monochrome image is generated from the color image.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an image processing device, and more specifically, to an improvement in an image processing device that performs image processing on a color image read from a document by an imaging device such as a scanner, and outputs a black-and-white image. [0002] This application claims the priority of Japanese Patent Application No. 2006-284811 filed on October 19, 2006 and Japanese Patent Application No. 2006-284810 filed on October 19, 2006, and the entire contents thereof are incorporated herein. Background technique [0003] In recent years, an image reading device has been proposed that reads a document or the like by removing objects expressed in a specific color. In this image reading device, a read image is generated in such a way that, for a predetermined color, an object represented by the color is not read. In this way, objects such as filled frames printed with the specific color, for example, red ink in the documen...
