Problems solved by technology

In addition, wireless devices operating according to the first version of the 802.11 protocol (e.g., 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, etc.) cannot support high-speed connections without hardware and / or software modifications, which is very important to the operator of the WLAN. can mean considerable cost

Embodiment Construction

[0015] The present invention can be further understood from the following description and drawings in which like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements. Example embodiments of the present invention describe a protocol for providing wireless devices in a wireless environment with multiple access to the wireless environment. In addition, the protocol of the present invention is preferably compatible with existing 802.11 based wireless devices using legacy access mechanisms.

[0016] Figure 1 shows a system 100 according to the invention. System 100 may include WLAN 105 deployed in space 110 . As understood by those skilled in the art, space 110 may be an enclosed space (eg, warehouse, office, home, store, etc.), an open environment (eg, parking lot, etc.), or a combination thereof. Space 110 may be one area, or, may be divided into more than one area (eg, area 115). Regions 115 are not limited in number or size. As shown in FIG. 1, space 110 is divided into re...

Abstract

Access point AP transmits predetermined number of first signals FS using first wireless communication mode FCM. Predetermined number of FSs corresponds to number of transmitting antennas of AP. FCM provides time slot for each FS to be transmitted. Each of wireless devices WD receives each of FSs. Each WD utilizes FSs to generate first communication matrix. Each WD transmits second signal SS to the AP. AP generates second communication matrix as function of SSs corresponding to number of selected WDs. Number of selected WDs is no greater than predetermined number of FSs. AP initiates wireless communications with at least one selected WD using second wireless communication mode SCM. When using SCM, AP employs second communication matrix to resolve multiple wireless communications from selected WDs and each selected WD employs corresponding first communication matrix to resolve multiple wireless communications from AP during single time slot over radio channel.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is related to U.S. applications filed March 31, 2005, entitled "Access Point and Method for Wireless Multiple Access," with inventor Jacob Sharony, and filed March 31, 2005, entitled "Wireless Device and Method for Wireless Multiple Access" by Jacob Sharony, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are flexible data communication systems that can replace or extend traditional wired LANs. WLANs can provide increased functionality and mobility based on a distributed environment. That is, a wired LAN sends data from a first computing device to another computing device over cables or wires that provide a link to the LAN and any device connected to it. However, WLANs rely on radio waves to send data between wireless devices. Data is superimposed onto radio waves through a process called modulation, whereby a carri...
