Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a device for realizing a heterogeneous VPLS network by using a policy-based routing, wherein, the method includes the steps that: step one, two layers protocols which are positioned at an edge device at the customer end and is different from ethernet type protocol are stopped before being connected into a switch-in port of the edge device of a provider throughthe additional arrangement of a first ethernet interface and a second ethernet interface on the edge device of the provider; step two, the data message of the two layers protocols is output from the first ethernet interface through an application policy-based routing, and the data output from the first ethernet interface is returned to the edge device of the provider through the second ethernet interface, then the second ethernet interface is added into VFI instances created by a VPLS network. The invention resolves the limit that the type of the two layers protocols connected from the edge device CE at the customer end must be same through expanding the VPLS network by taking fully the prior routing technology, thus a communication between multi types of protocols is realized, and the networking capability of VPLS in practice is enhanced.
