Abstract

The invention relates to a modem which includes a locking module, a bandwidth selecting unit and an authentication module. The locking module is used for locking a bandwidth. The bandwidth selecting unit is used for judging whether a locked bandwidth is a preset bandwidth or not and selecting a voucher from a plurality of vouchers according to the result of the judgment. The authentication module is used for carrying out the authentication by using the selected voucher. The invention also provides a method for selecting the voucher. The modem and the method for selecting the voucher automatically and simply select the suitable voucher to carry out the authentication according to the locked bandwidth, thus ensuring the safety of communication.
